Columbia- Jim Gilmore is a Republican candidate for President of the United States. The media has largely dismissed him as an also-ran, but I believe he deserves consideration just like every other member of the field.
Before being elected 68th Governor of Virginia, Gilmore was a counter-intelligence officer for the CIA. He was also a county prosecutor and Attorney General of Virginia. As Governor, Gilmore worked to cut car taxes, improve public schools, and reduce tuition costs.
Gilmore was also chairman of the Republican National Committee from 2001-2002, and chairman of what became known as the Gilmore commission, a major anti-terrorism investigation. He is also President and CEO of the Free Congress Foundation, President of USA Secure, and a member of the National Rifle Association’s Board of Directors.
He ran for President in 2008, but dropped out after 5 months. He later went on to run for U.S. Senate against Mark Warner. In August 2015, Gilmore announced that he is running for President again.
He has also put forward very substantive policy proposals, including his impressive “Growth Code“. Gilmore’s campaign has begun picking up steam in recent weeks, including increasing his number of public appearances, and adding staff in New Hampshire.
