Rick Santorum for President

Columbia- I have a great deal of respect for just about every candidate in the 2016 race (Paul and Cruz excepted), but I believe that there is only one candidate in the Republican race for President who “checks all the boxes,” so to speak. This candidate is former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum.

Almost every candidate says the right thing. But Santorum’s record in the Senate shows that he truly believes these things. It’s very easy to say you’re pro-life. It’s quite another to actually write the bill that banned partial birth abortion. It’s one thing to talk tough on Iran, it’s another to write a sanctions bill. It’s one thing to support reforming welfare, it’s another to have actually eliminated a federal entitlement program. It’s also one thing to do these things when you’re from a red state, but Santorum did them from Pennsylvania. He even lost his 2006 re-election campaign because he stood on principle.

I’m not naive. I know that Santorum is not polling well. Here’s the funny thing about polling: it doesn’t predict anything. If we had elected the early leaders in 2008, Hillary Clinton would have narrowly defeated Rudy Giuliani before facing Rick Perry in 2012.

Conservatives like Santorum, and they know they can trust them. Similarly, the guy with the new Corvette is everyone’s best friend until it comes time to take a road trip. Then they love the guy with the old, reliable van that can get them from point a to point b reliably, safely, and honestly. Cruz, Fiorina, and Trump are Corvettes (I may write an article soon assigning each candidate a car. That should be fun!) but Santorum is the reliable van. Conservatives in Iowa, South Carolina, and across America know they can trust him to represent their values.

I’m supporting Rick Santorum. I encourage you to test the platforms of each candidate to your beliefs and values, and arrive at your own conclusions, but I ask each of my readers to give strong consideration to Rick Santorum.

  1. I was a fan of Rick Santorum from the very beginning. He has said a lot of things that I agreed with. The only area I disagree with him on is his opposition to same sex marriage.
