House Speaker John Boehner announced to fellow House Republicans that he will be retiring at the end of October.
This comes as the prospects of a coup attempt from the GOP Caucus’s right flank have become very real and very tangible over the past few months.
It is unclear who will succeede Boehner as Speaker, but it will likely be someone far more conservative than Boehner.
Boehner’s retirement will mark a significant change in House Conservatism. The Ohio Republican has led the House since Republicans returned to power in 2010.
