Policy Positions #1: Immigration

Over the next few weeks, I will be laying out a number of specific policy positions on a number of issues. I’m starting with Immigration.

America is an inherently welcoming nation. Immigration in principle is a very noble concept. Unfortunately, reckless policies in the past 20 years or so has led to stagnant wage growth and fewer employment opportunities. My goal here is to change these problems and still maintain America as a country welcoming to immigration.

Fact: Every net new job in the past 15 years has gone to an immigrant. Our goal as a country should be to prioritize our citizens. In addition to instituting programs such as E-Verify, we should see a 20-25% reduction in legal immigration. Even if we were to do this, we would still be at an all-time high for immigration, and would prioritize American workers.

Some other actions we need to take are:

  1. Ban Sanctuary Cities: According to the Supremacy Clause, federal law is superior to state and local laws, which gives congress the authority to withhold any federal funds (social program funding, highway funds, infrastructure money, etc) from any city that fits the criteria of a sanctuary city.
  2. Build A Wall: A nation without borders is a nation short lived. Inability to defend borders led to the fall of Rome and the British Empire, and building an effective border wall is the number one way to defend our borders. (And no, Mexico is not going to pay for the wall. That would be like asking the Red Sox to pay for the Yankees stadium.)
  3. Require the Use of E-Verify: This is a very simple plan that will prioritize the American worker and help boost our citizens in the economic arena.
